Carrie Strope Sohayda was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. After graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, she moved to Napa, California where she learned the art of glass while working in two different glass studios (both hot and cold). She returned to Nebraska to be nearer her family and works out of her home studio. When Carrie’s not firing it up in the glass studio she’s reading everything she can about techniques and trends in glass. As enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge as she is about expanding her own talents, Carrie travels the country teaching classes in mosaic, stained glass and glass fusing to both children and adults. She’s taught mosaic and the transcription of art into glass at the Las Vegas Craft and Bead Expo, and launched the first-ever glass program at the LUX Center for the Arts in her hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska. Carrie’s headlong rush into the creative life started at home where she crocheted with her grandmother, quilted with her mother and worked alongside her dad in his woodshop. Meet Carrie and view her work on her website, Calyx Glass. |
